Pentium processor on Core2Duo motherboard?

Hi,

I got my hands on an old Pentium E2140 processor (Socket LGA775), and I'd like to know if it is possible to use it on a Core2Duo motherboard (also LGA775, of course).

Using Google, I found that it's not possible to use a Core2Duo processor on a Pentium motherboard but I'm not sure if that's the case when doing it the other way around.

The motherboard I'd like to use is an Acer Q35T-AM LGA775 DDR2.

The E2140 is based off the same architecture as the 65nm Core 2 Duos, odds are the motherboard will support it, but you never know with OEM boards, sometimes they like to cut corners and limit CPU support to the few specific CPUs they will pair with that particular motherboard.

Hi,
It seems that Acer has not published cpu support list for that oem model motherboard, so there is really no way to be sure except to try it out. But as pentium E2140 is core2duo (based on Allendale core) processor, I would say that it should work.

Hm, that's too bad.

Are you sure about the Pentium E2140 being Core2Duo, though? I found this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conroe_(microprocessor) , and it says the E2xxx are all Pentium Dual Core's.

(not sure if this is the right way to reply to your message, sorry if it's wrong.)
