I'm doing a CGI & Digital Effects course at Uni and I think I have most things set but I have no idea what Monitor to buy. I'm going to start off with 1 monitor and VGA one until I can buy another one. There are so many different monitors I really don't know what to buy, IPS are good but not for gaming I heard.

My budget is about £150-200 but obviously cheaper the better but I'm willing to spend the full amount if the monitor is worth it.

IPS is what I would go for in your situation, the better colours it affords you over a TN will be useful. Gaming will be pretty much the same compared to a TN, you would have to be pretty sensitive to notice a difference between 2 and 5ms of response time.
Something like this would be fine.

Though this would be ideal. I beleive the ProArt series has a higher quality IPS panel (Maybe AH-IPS compared to typical e-IPS) and comes precalibrated to display colours correctly.
