I currently have a AMD fx 4100 I'm looking to upgrade to a better cpu, What is the best cpu for gaming that i can get and is compatible with my motherboard?
Motherboard: ASRock 970 EXTREME3 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

Solution
+1 for the FX 6300 for gaming.

Easily overclocks to 4.4-4.5 on air with a good 970 chipset AM3+ board (* Looks for 8+2 power) and a small voltage bump.

4.6-4.8 on water is also pretty common with a high quality board (* 990FX chipset with LLC)

Supports DDR3 1866.

Popular and inexpensive.

Your ASRock 970 Extreme 3 will be able to really push an FX 6300.

Read manual to find bios setting for changing multiplier. Raise it to 19.5 and you have yourself an FX 6350 for less money. That is all you have to do. You could probably do 4.0ghz by setting it to 20 without any adjustments to voltage.

For about a $100 less, you could buy an FX 8350 and a decent closed loop cooler and achieve the same results. FX 8320 possibly would work saving even more money.

Seems the MB claims support for FX8150, so that would be the 'best' supported CPU. It seems to have special issues with cooling, reading the small print.

I would go for the FX6350 though, on cost and wattage and heat.

If I look on newegg under feedback somebody lists this as their specs. I am utterly confused.

Pros: Ran my 8350 and GTX 760 with default bios. The bios looks great and seems to have a lot overclocking potential, although I am yet to do so.

AND A SEPARATE FEEDBACK RESPONSE

Fx 8350 liquid cooled, stock settings
Asrock 970 extreem3
16gb corsail vengence 1600(4x4gb)
asus gtx 680
60gb agility3 - 500gb wd10k sata3
Seagate 620w MKII

Not necessarily, many boards just cannot supply the obscene amount of power needed to run the 9590.
