Hey guys,

have always scanned these treads for build advise over the years but now I need some help with a possible upgrade.

First off I built a budget rig for light gaming (BF3 Swtor other rpgs and mmos) I did not have a ton of $$ so I went for the AMD a10-5800K to save on buying a gpu. What I should have realized is that the socket on the motherboard would only accept the APU's. The AMD chip does well for me on BF3, FF ARR, SWTOR and Dragon AGe. I have it OC to 4.3ghz with 16gb of 1833mhz ram.

Now I want to get ready for bf4 and I want to have a sweet enjoyable BF4 experience. I went out and bought a gtx 650 ti (thought i was buying the boost but I did not) and it definitely improved the BF4 beta but still not quite there. It REALLY improved bf3 and I can play on ultra now which is sweet.

I am going to return the gtx 650 ti to bestbuy and order a ti boost on newegg for the same price.

In doing this I have gotten the bug to upgrade the whole system and future proof myself. In order to go with an i5-3570k (would be first intel buil) or the AMD fx-8350 I need a new mobo too and because I am an idiot and bought an OEM Win7 I will need another one of those as well.

My main question is this: (FINALLY!) is it worth the $500 + to upgrade my system to an i5-3570K or even the fx-8350 or should I just stick with the a10-5800k and the gtx 650 ti boost (i plan on using that card for either build)

Will the difference in gaming performance be that big that it is worth the investment?

current system:

AMD a10-5800k oc to 4.3ghz
ASUS F2A85-V PRO FM2 AMD A85X
16gb DDR3 1833mhz RAM
OCZ Vertex 4 VTX4-25SAT3-128G 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC (SSD)
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan
GTX 650 TI

Or Upgrade to:

INtel i5-3570K + motherboard
gtx 650 ti boost

Solution
If you OC the A10, it can handle the 7970 which is equivalent to a 770 or r9 280x. It may not be fully utilized up to the level of an i7 and that GPU, but it will do well AS OF NOW. I'm saying this because it would be such a waste to buy a 650ti boost tomorrow, then upgrade your CPU at the same time. And then regret after 2 months because you could've saved the money and get a powerful GPU. You can upgrade the CPU after a while.

The scenario would be like this:
650ti boost + 3570k = 30 to 40fps ultra settings. (modern games of course)
A10 + r9 280x / 770 = 40 to 50 fps ultra settings.

But if you go the 3570k route, it's not so future proofed. Where as when you go with your current A10 and a powerful GPU, you can just add a powerful...

Thanks for the response. Seeing as I am returning the GTX 650 ti I have not bought the replacement yet. What would be the best GPU to go with that won't bottleneck that A10?
