Hi guys,

Just built a new rig up and everything is a go except that I am unable to shut down the computer.

Upon initiating a shut down, the screen freezes at the "shutting down..." blue screen and does not turn off (the small animated icon which rotates completely freezes too). Restarting works fine however; though the screen does freeze for a few moments, it does eventually completely shut down for a few moments before restarting.

I have tried in safe mode, but this makes no difference. It still freezes at the shut down screen.

Currently using the ASRock Z77 Extreme4 MOBO with an I5 3570k; after installing drivers for the Sapphire HD 7970 Vapor X, the screen now shuts off but the computer is still active (including the GPU, which still has the lights turned on).

At first I thought there was something wrong with the OS, but I've tried reinstalling and still a no-go. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know!

Solution
it happens some time is a bios glitch. pull power from the wall let the motherboard drain then clear the cmos. after you clear the cmos make sure the motherboard bios is up to the newest rev. also in the bios make sure xmp profile for the ram is turned on.

Thank you so much!

Wanted to be sure as I had an instance where it did shut down, but only once in the past before returning to the same problem.

Shutting it down for the fourth time and all is great!! Thanks!!!
