WD Hard Drive

i have tried everything to access my westren digital external hard drive but its not working , i have even bought a new computer out of frustration and still it wont open , what to do ? my life is in 2TB WD !

So the computer does not recognize it when you attach it via USB and plug in it's power source?

What are the symptoms of this drive not opening?

And if I may be so crass....this is why we have backups and multiple copies.

it recognize it as a disk , i can even see it on my computer but when i click open ,, it says access is denied !

i allowed access from properties - security but still cant access !

What was the last thing you did before this occurred?


cleaned up my computer (registry - errors) and restarted it !!
and then i thought maybe coz my laptop is old and crap ..
so i bought a new one and still !

My Computer --> right click on the drive (e.g. F: ) --> Properties --> Security tab --> click OK if security message appears --> Advanced --> Click Add --> Then select "Select a Principal" and make it your username --> Ensure all tick boxes ticked, except "Only Apply these permissions..." --> Click OK --> Click OK --> Click OK --> Restart if asked and then attempt to acces the drive.

it kinda worked had to change a thing .. thankx so much it worked :) 
but why i cant rename it :(

found it .. dont right click and rename it ..
open properties then name it .. then restart r computer ..
