I have a fairly fresh install of windows 8 and windows 8.1 this week looks very appealing. Is there any advantage to doing a clean install of windows 8.1 over just updating? In terms of all of the games and everything that I have installed or drivers becoming corrupt. It's basically just like a service pack right? I don't have to worry about anything that I said happening?

Theoretically, yes. It is just an update. All your stuff 'should' be fine.

Me personally, I'm waiting a week or two to see if any issues fall out from other people doing it.
Just as I would with any major upgrade/update/OS change.

I've been running the 8.1 Preview on a secondary machine for quite a whil. I'm still going to wait a little while before changing my main machine over.

I guess I'll just download the ISO anyway and see how the update goes. I'll probably reinstall my graphics card drivers just to be safe.

In the official release statement Microsoft said that esisting windows 8 users could update for free, but there would also be an ISO available. Think I read it on gizmodo or something about a week ago.
