Any better monitors in this price range?

So I was looking for a 3D monitor and found the ASUS VG248QE. It immediately got my attention thanks to its ridiculous response time and frequency. Problem is, I have an amd card, it only supports 3D vision and I'm not changing to nvidia anytime soon. I'll probably get this monitor anyway since I don't think there's one with the ridiculous refresh rate and response time for this price. Before I buy, I was just wondering if anyone knows of a monitor with specs close to this that would work with an amd gpu? I just want a better than average response time, 120hz refresh rate and 3D that I can use that doesn't cut the resolution in half(like I heard passive 3D does). Must be the same price or cheaper. Also, I heard you must use dual link DVI for the full 144hz frequency, will converting from mini display port work? It's all I have on my 7970...

Leave Vsync off for the most part if it's not already. I've found some games act wonky despite the refresh rate being at 144 Hz with Vsync on. Make sure you're running your latest video drivers as well.

I'll see if I can't find more on using HD3D on the VG248QE for you in the meantime.

Converting from mini-displayport to dual-link DVI will work. Or, you can just use mini-displayPort to regular DisplayPort on the VG248QE to get the 144 Hz.

To my knowledge, you can do AMD HD3D on any 3D-capable 120+ Hz monitor. I know there are a few posts here on Tom's of people who have succeeded in using the AMD HD3D on the VG248QE, so you should be able to do it on that monitor with some trickery. The 3D Vision is just Nvidia's proprietary 3D-tech, and doesn't prevent you from using those specs to achieve the result on AMD cards.

Turns out I had a dual link dvi cable laying around and the monitor came with one... I've only seen one post of someone who got hd3d working on this monitor and all the replies were people who failed after following his exact directions :/ I got the monitor but my frame rate in games has been cut in half when I set it to 144hz mode, is that normal?

Turns out the 7970 is glitchy at 144hz... I think I'll get a new card.
