HD 7970 vs R9 280X - Worth the $70 price difference? (render/gaming rig multi-monitor)

The cards will be used in a render PC and games will be played.
1-4 monitors will be used (usually 3 minimum)

Is the price difference worth it, or should i go for the cheaper card?
I like that the ASUS has 4 same video output types instead of mismatch, but i like the price of the 7970.

Recommendations and thoughts?

Then pick the R9 280X. More like software limitation than hardware. The R9 removes that with allowing direct access to its API.

Yes; the HD 7970 is a great card. The main selling point is: how much do you care about the three free games provided with the purchase of the HD 7970? If you do, then buy the HD 7970 because it is a very good card (only about 5% weaker) and you get three games worth $100 for free.

just curious--why does the card take up 2 slots and not 3? mobo or card "feature"?
