Do drives in a Raid 6 configuration need to be the same exact model or can they just be the same size and speed? Thanks in advance!

Solution
I doubt it would be that much of an issue. Do you know the access times/latency on these? I suspect they are very close.

Best bet is to just try it and see how you like the performance. You realize you will end up with 2TB of storage with a RAID6 right? if you use RAID5 you will have 3TB of storage.

Like for example, I have 4 Seagate Constellation 1 TB drives and 2 are identical and the other 2 are different. Would they be close enough to not cause performance degradation? BTW they are all 7200 RPM SATA 3

I think I am going with RAID 5 now because of the only 50 percent storage on RAID 6 and also one of the hard drives is making strange noises so I don't know how long it is going to last. Thanks again!
