I have a Gateway FX6840-03e that I recently got for free and I'm looking to upgrade the Graphics Card. However I know VERY little about these things and am in need of your assistance.

The Specs I know are -
OS- Windows 7 -64 bit
Intel Core i7 860
Graphics - Ati Radeon HD 5770 1024mb
Ram -8gb DDR3
1 TB Hard Drive
PSU - 450w /500w max

I am running on a 32 inch screen at 1920 by 1080 and do not intend on changing.

This card (SAPPHIRE 100352-3L Radeon HD 7950 3GB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16) was my first choice but it doesn't look like it will fit in my case.

I'm looking to play Battlefield 4 and Titanfall on this thing if I can upgrade it in time. (I was getting 20- 30 fps on the Battlefield 4 Beta on low all except medium texture)
My budget is between $300 and $400 at the moment.

Does anyone have any constructive suggestions?

Solution

Yes if you think your case is too small then you should a asus GTX 670mini direct cu2.Its so small that it will fit in any case and its an overclocked 670 usually performs like a stock 770

What about a minimum gpu that wouldnt require a psu upgrade?
Because the whole reason Im looking to pc game is because its cheaper than buying the s**t box 1

then you need to buy a GPU from zotac and zotac only since there dual silencer cooler are very short in size.Make make sure your Psu has all the pcie cables necessary

I opened my case and there's like half an inch thickness and maybe an inch in width plus several inches in length to work with HOWEVER there's some wires that may hit. Would you be able to help me further if I provide some pictures?

I dont know if you still asking as its now feb 2014 but in case anyone else is wondering I have the same pc I recently upgraded to asus gtx 760 oc, it works very well even with stock psu my frame rates have almost tripled on some games. It was a simple plug and play just use both 6pin to the one 8 pin to connect and remove all amd drivers before removing 5770

Indeed I got the same card essentially. For some reason I had to rearrange the sata cables tho to get it to fit well with my sound card.
