Hello everyone,

I have an GA-x58-USB3 and Intel i7 950, running with hd5700. And I wanna update it a bit. Was wondering, should I get a new motherboard and a new CPU. (like i5 3570k and a proper 1155 socket motherboard, then maybe a 123$ 660ti) or just get an GTX 770 VGA and stay with my current mobo and CPU. The only thing I'm doing on this system is BF4 and that is all I'm planing to do. Tell me what you think please. BTW maybe some ideas on i7 950 being 100$more expensive then the wonderful 3570k.

I have another idea, since I forgot to mention that I only play on low or medium graphic settings. Maybe I should get a mobo and a cpu, and get another hd 5700 and crossfire. How much more power form gpu by % will I get. I think I can get another hd5700 almost for free.

Intel does not reduce their list prices, even long after launch. You will find that prices are reduced only on the used market.

I think your GTX770 upgrade plan is probably right.

But.. To help clarify your options, run these two tests:

a) Run your games, but lower your resolution and eye candy.
If your FPS increases, it indicates that your cpu is strong enough to drive a better graphics configuration.
If your FPS stays the same, you are likely more cpu limited.

b) Limit your cpu, either by reducing the OC, or, in windows power management, limit the maximum cpu% to something like 50%.
This will simulate what a lack of cpu power will do.

Go to control panel/power options/change plan settings/change advanced power settings/processor power management/maximum processor state/
set to 50% and see how you do.

You could also experiment with removing one core in the bios. This will tell you how sensitive your games are to the benefits of many cores.

If your FPS drops significantly, it is an indicator that your cpu is the limiting factor, and a cpu upgrade is in order.

It is possible that both tests are positive, indicating that you have a well balanced system, and both cpu and gpu need to be upgraded to get better gaming FPS.

Thank a bunch guys. Seems like for a while my i7 950 will take care of all my games. hd 5700 is the part that needs to be changed. Maybe I also add an ssd storage device for my os and bf4. And be fine for quite some time.
