Built-in Display Not Working

My acer aspire 5250-BZ669 laptop powers up, although the built in display will not function. When it is connected to an external monitor, it works fine. However, when I check the "Change the appearance of your display" page, it only shows the external monitor.

If you are using windows 7 or 8. Go to start and then type "device manager" in the search. This is found on the start menu on 7 or start screen on 8.

Check your keyboard for a change display button. Usually this is done by pressing a function key. Also please check device manager. If you are not sure how to do this let me know.
