Help getting my laptop screen to show on my monitor

i have a asus vg248qe monitor which i am trying to get to display whats on my laptop screen. i have them connected by a vga cord (from the laptop) to a vga to hdmi converter which plugs into the hdmi port of the monitor. but its not working. pls help!

there a funtion and a f key that you have to press to get both screen to turn on.

does the set up work on a pc??? some vga adaptors can block the video info and some monitors wont turn on.

I believe the adaptor is the problem , go vga to vga and see if it works
