Realtek audio ports not working after a week...?

Hi all.. I just bought a new gaming pc last week. Up until now it's been running beautifully. However there seems to be a problem with the sound.
I usually run my speakers to the front audio jack as the monitor speakers are rubbish. This had worked until today when it decided not to recognize the jack and instead play sounds through the monitor. I have windows 8 and it comes with Realtek HD Audio Manager. So what happens now is that I plug in my speakers and the information box appears which allows you to select the type of input you can use, either the speakers or monitor. Except the speakers are not an option. I did manage to change the default format and it seemed to work for a bit. But now it just refuses to play ball. Even my headhones don't work in the front port. It's weird because it just happened all of a sudden.

Any ideas? I'm thinking it must be a driver or something. That or a cable issue. Anyone else having problems?

Thanks!

I just checked both ends of the cable.. motherboard and output. All seems fine. It works kinda.. If i hold down the headphone jack for afew seconds then let go. So i guess that means its the connection between the jack and the input. Not alot I could do with that is there? Seen as it's built into the case itself...

Is the cable on the motherboard for the front panel header connected correctly and not lose?
Did you try updating your Realtek drivers? (Or did windows install it, and require a reboot?)
Is the cable of the device broken? Try connecting in other devices?
Try control panel->Hardware and Sound->Devices and Printers sub category "Device Manager"
Under the word help is an icon, hover your mouse over it, it'll say Scan for Hardware changes. Click it. Did that help?

Went onto the control panel. All audio drivers are up to date. Clicked the scan for hardware changes button but nothing appeared to happen. I bought a new audio cable today and it still works a bit then it randomly just disconnects itself without me touching anything. Starting the think its the port. Whether the connection between the jack and the port just isn't good enough..
