My computer made a popping noise and it started to make a burning smell i
thought my computer froze i moved the mouse but it still worked

My spec
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+
PNY GeForce 9600 GT
4GB 800MHz Ram
80GB Toshiba HDD Sata 5400RPM
400GB Hitachi IDE 7200RPM
Gigabyte GA-M56S-S3

I have a 400 Watt
It was a quick minor but very noticeable pop
And at the time after the pop it was still working
And I was still using Windows 8

Solution
A 380W Antec Earthwatts would be sufficient for your build. If you want more upgrade room, you might prefer the 500W version.
Something in your PSU croaked. It could have been a capacitor, which means it's now producing extremely poorly-filtered output on one or more rails, putting attached parts at risk. You should not use your PC any more until you replace the PSU.
