A Few questions. First is it safe to leave the motherboard laying against a wooden desk without stand offs? the second I plan to install from thermal take the water extreme 2.0
. The third is it safe to lay the radiator of the extreme 2.0 on its side or will it hurt the pump?
.The fourth will the back plate hurt the motherboard from the way its raised in the back behind the Cpu. Thank you all sorry to ask so many questions , I've gone through the Haff X and the corsair 900d and I've given up on cases

I have not personally seen a board warp. I just do not want you to have a future issue.

This is what I mean about using the standoffs(I did not have a board handy so do not mind the stand in) on the desk. I do not think you need to drill or anything. Cardboard under should help protect the desk.

Alternatively, if you have thumb screws like this they will only touch the board like a standoff and can be used the other way(less sharp on your desk).

Since the standoffs are not attached to anything, you should take care when installing cards or memory(support the board from the underside if you can while installing those parts.).

This...
Just install the standoffs on the board and let it sit on those.

The real challenge without any mind of an actual test bench will be holding the video card. The pci-e slot will not hold it forever without some help.

You will not hurt the rad sitting it on its side nor will it hurt the pump.

Just to keep the board off the hard surface. The grounding is not as important as some would thing because the power supply is grounded and the board is grounded from all those black wires :)

You may be able to use bolts(from under the board.) with small nuts(they have to not touch anything on the board that they should not) as a replacement. Again, just the old standoffs would work as well(just attach them to the board and let the screw bases sit on wood as long as it is not something that will scratch too easy.).

why is the hard surface a bad thing? I'm trying not to scratch the wood I know silly. from what I am gathering from what your saying is you put the screw side in the mother board holes right and let it stand off on the stand offs or am I completely missing the point?

that's crazy I never knew they warped its funny suddenly it seems like chassis-less motherboards aren't as simple as thought, I don't desire to drill holes in my desk is card board an option I can see thick enough card board being a good material to use as a sue do base. I also want to keep it stable, your thoughts and knowledge is much appreciated as is

This still does not help with video card support, you will have to get creative.
