Shopping for a GPU (or two) right now, can't decide on what would be best. I know whatever I get will likely run most games just fine (not max, but high), but I want to be able to play modded Skyrim in 1440p. I've been considering between GTX 760 4GB in SLI or GTX 770 4GB. Wondering if either of these options would work and whether I really need to go for the 4Gb cards.

More about : gpu modded skyrim 1440p

This should do the trick:
http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=67547&vpn=GV-R797OC-3G...
It's the Gigabyte Windforce Radeon HD 7970 OC 1100MHz 3GB (GA-990FXA-UD3). If you want two, get two but you need to order them TONIGHT because the price goes up from $300 to $450 after tonight. It's your last chance!

Hey, thanks for the reply. I'm open to AMD cards but haven't had the best luck with them in the past. Are their drivers more stable these days?

CFX isnt, but single card configs such as the 7970 is perfect.

If you go with Nvidia, I'd definitely recommend 4GB cards. The way I had it modded, Skyrim used 2.7 GB at 1080p, so the 2GB versions would be completely inadequate at 1440p. And if Skyrim is the only game where you're concerned about IQ, then the SLI 760 4GB sounds like the right setup.

From what I've read, the 760 can't take advantage of the 4GB, is it a different story in SLI?

It is a different story, a 512bit bus is what you get in SLi. A 512bit bus will overkill 4GB. But who wants to run Skyrim with NVIDIA card anyway? Lots of things arnt suppported in Skyrim without a AMD (OpenCL based card) card. Logan from Tek Syndicate even tossed out his 780 for his ASUS 7970 which had less performance but more quality such as godrays, and AMD only mods(particle effects and fire).

I know it does... Im not talking about frames here, just quality. You don't get godrays, and mods like "HD Fire Effects" shouldn't work properly.

Ah, ok. What's a 7970 comparable to on the Nvidia side, a 770?

MY 7970 beats a 770 anyday , but stock clocked 7970 is downclocked to me. OCed 7970 is the way to go.
