I'm putting together a first build for a system that I'll use mostly for work (I'm a biologist) - which means a lot of big data sets in various interfaces (R, Matlab, ImageJ, etc.) and the occasional use of Avizo Fire and 3D rendering. No gaming. Here's what I've put together (I'd like to stick in the 1500 range or so). Tips?

My biggest uncertainty is the video card - good for Avizo, not really necessary for anything else I'm doing (really).

Solution
I'm going to assume no overclocking so aftermarket cooling is not really necessary, nor is the thermal compound.

3D rendering will probably better served by one of the AMD FireGL or Nvidia Quadro cards than a consumer/gaming class video card like the 660Ti.

edit: seems as though some 3D modeling software has shifted from OpenGL to DirectX in which case a gaming class card will do fine.

Other than that, looks OK to me.

Thanks for the feedback. The FireGl or Quadro pushes it out of my price range, so I think going with a pretty good gaming card is my best option. Any other rec's that would enhance things?
