Hello everyone,

I'm running into some issues with a home desktop system and I'm hoping you could give me a hand.

I upgraded an old system to some new internals (upgraded proc, mobo, ram, video card and hard drive). Since I was running a WinXP 32 Bit system, I also made the upgrade to Windows 8 (retail disc).

My hardware setup is as follows:

Intel i7-3770k proc
Intel DZ77GAL-70k mobo
eVGA GeForce GTX 560Ti Classified (448 cores) video card
Thermaltake TR2 RX 750W Power supply
Samsung 1TB Primary HDD
Western Digital 500GB 2nd HDD
Unsure of brand on DVD RW
16GB Patriot Viper DDR3 RAM

I built this system about 6 months ago, and at the beginning I had a hell of a time getting the OS to properly install. It froze often during install, and eventually with enough reboots I was able to get a somewhat-stable Win8 system going. Aside from a few minor video glitches across the 6 months (less than 5 occurrences), the main issue is that the system often froze on shutdown and came back saying it had recovered from a serious error. I went through the logs and although i could find some issues logged with the video card, it always said it was able to resolve the issue. The system hung and restarted with an error on 4/5 shutdowns.

I have updated the BIOS, all video drivers had been updated to most recent versions, and even rolled back to prior versions to see if there was a bug in the newest build.

I had checked the connections on the motherboard and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. After a while, I decided to attempt a windows 8 refresh, which failed repeatedly. Reinstalls had also failed, and now I have no working OS again. Upon reinstall, the system hangs multiple times, says that it has recovered from a serious error again, and restarts. There is no error code given.

When operational, there are no error codes that show up on the motherboard's code readout either.

I wish I had the logs, to show the errors, but they're on the secondary hard drive of my only desktop in the house, and I don't have an enclosure to tear them out with.

Would any of you happen to have an idea on what I should be looking for as a possible cause of these install problems?

I'm pretty much at my wits' end, and I would greatly appreciate if anyone had some advice for me.

Thanks for your time

Solution
Yeah, can always return it if it doesnt help out with your issue. But im betting that it does. Hope it takes care of your problem.

The Thermaltake PSU was sufficient in my old dual core intel setup, but it might be overloaded in this new one. I had thought it would be sufficient at 750W though, since I'm not running a second video card. Something to consider for sure.

I'll pick up a new PSU tomorrow and give that a shot. The Antec High Current Pro 750W Modular PSU is on sale at my local tech shop, and I do like Antec parts. Considering I'm only planning on running a single video card, I imagine it should be sufficient.
