Win 7 + cache SSD what I need really to do

I just installed a 64GB mSATA SSD on my Lenovo X220, want to use it as a cache.

Thinking I need to configure partitions, proprietary caching sw, etc.

Instead win 7 installed SSD drivers and simply speed up anything from himself.

Win experience index improved in graphics, app startup is much faster, all it's snappy and even shutdown is faster.

The SSD it's not recognized as a new drive, but I can find it in system resources.

Need I to do anything? I can format it, but need I to do it? I can configure the proprietary caching sw, but I can't figure out what win is doing, so I don't know if worth the effort (and the risk to change some equilibrium).

SSD is for OS and most needed application installation. Not for any secondary use.

When you connect your SSD, you need to disconnect your HDD and then install your OS on the SSD.

Once you are all set with your OS installation, connect your HDD. There will be no issue.

I think you haven't got the whole picture. SSD can be used also for caching and I don't want to reinstall OS in any way.

I've posted a specific question, after reding a lot of times the OS reinstall mantra I'm starting to wonder if there are here dozens of sales rep from every SSD vendor pushing to sell bigger SSD instead of small cache.

Because you haven't used the SSD for proper use, you have encountered the "SSD not recognized" issue.

If you want to use it for cache only, then too fine. Use. Just know that the space you use for cache purpose, can't be used for anything else.

Check your win32 folder in depth. You will understand the windows monopoly. :)

I don't want to use it for anything than speedup my system.

I was just wondering why after spending last weeks informing myself about every caching solution and after I bought a specific SSD+sw with that in mind I discover I don't need to configure anything.

Fine it's exactly what I wanted, zero config and a bump in speed, I'm just concerned if I miss something.

So what's your question? Be specific. Otherwise, your post won't get any attention, answer is too far.

And please don't use threat here.

Here, at toms hardware forum, we don't get paid to help users. So be specific, wait for working solution/answer and if not satisfied and leave.

There are two specific questions:

- why I'm able to use the drive unformatted? Considering it's anyway able to speed up my system need I anyway to format it?

- I suppose Windows SuperFetch it's responsible for the performance improvement. What's the difference respect a third party caching solution such as Nvelo Dataplex or Condusiv ExpressCache? I will have some benefit configuring the new caching sw in the current setup?
