I am building a computer but I got stuck choosing between the i5 3470 and fx-6300. I am not going to be over clocking. Don't worry about my budget, all I want to know is it worth it to get 3470 if I'm just playing cod ghost and bo2 or will it actually make a noticeable difference from the fx 6300?

I am not a fanboy or either AMD nor Intel. You can see the comparison here:http://
The 3470 is way better than the fx 6300.

Practically every advantage the i5 has in these benchmarks will be erased once you overclock that FX6300 to 4+GHz. The i5 in turn cannot be overclocked, as it it multiplier locked, and it will never have 6 integer cores, only 4. The FX6300 is both cheaper and faster (with said overclock) than that i5 in virtually every respect. Go AMD.

^OP stated that he will not be overclocking so why are you telling him to get the 6300? You even stated that the competition is much closer IF the 6300 is OC'd. The 3470 can be overclocked to 4.0 GHz, by the way, but it requires a z77 mobo (perhaps the 75 as well, but 77 is certain).

On the other hand, the 6300 is about $60 cheaper. Consider that Intel cpus usually have better per core performance than AMD. Both are good options though unless I wanted to overclock I would get the 3470.

I know this has been closed but you can save money buy going FX-6300 I took away my overclock I play ghost and there's 45-120 frames (it's a horrible PC port, I stay in the 80s until I see the center of most maps) but it also depends on the game. BF4 makes use of all 6 cores, BO2 is old unless you have a 650 or under FPS won't matter for you cause you prob have 80+ anyways good luck!

the amd cpu's shine with a slight overclock...you get much more value out of the money for doing so also.

Its as easy as going into the bios...scrolling down...typing 20, hitting enter, and then save and restart.

If no overclock is happening, id go with the i5...but the amd cpu's are so easy to clock up and do so maintaining a stock voltage.
