Which Card/s for Asus 3D 27-inch 120Hz gaming monitor?

Thanks for the advice any experts out there.
Many people out there seem to be confused about VRAM relating to hardware and software, and me as much as anyone else (for my new build PC).
I want/need a GTX card or cards at around $600-$700 (converted currency) by the month end.
I have a new build i7 4770 (with a big Zalman cooler) in a Z87 Sabertooth motherboard running 16GB A-data 1866 RAM, with Win 8.1 Pro and a 128GB Samsung SSD Pro and a WD 1TB Black hard-drive and others....plus a 3D panasonic/(buffalo branded) Blu-Ray drive; with a Japanese 700W Platinum PSU; all this in a Zalman Z11 Pro case (plenty of fan venting), and I need a graphics card to replace my two HD7770`s crossfire setup; as I bought an Asus VG278H Monitor with the 3D glasses last month.
Ok.
I know I need a
GTX760/GTX770/GTX780 arrangement...
But I and others are not CERTAIN about the VRAM issue.
So the question is;- (WHILST PARTLY TAKING THE SPEED OF THE CARDS PARTLY OUT OF THE EQUATION);-
Does it make any real difference if one buys a single fairly fast 2GB card (or two 2GB cards) for 3D gaming/movies; or does the VRAM make a noticeable difference (more than the speed of the card itself) comparing a 4GB GTX760 to (for instance) a 2GB GTX770?
Which would be the way to go?
Or will they all run great and VRAM Gigabyte Number does not improve or effect running 1080p at 120 Hz in 3D gaming?
(Pssst; I know 2D gaming the only way forward for some people; but that’s not I, so I will be persevering with trying 3D games and will use it for 3D movies and a 3D camcorder)
I am guessing hardcore gamers will say “buy two GTX770`s at 4GB each”; but that takes me out of the budget. Even the cheapest Zotac GTX770 4GB are $530 each here (total $1060 here in Japan).
So, the options are
Two (ASUSTeK) x 2GB GTX 670`s ($300 each here in Japan [=$600])
or
Cheapo pair of 4GB KUROUTOSHIKOU GTX760 cards [$350 each] COULD STREEEETCH TO THIS OPTION Painfully [no new game])
or
One 4GB GTX770 (Gigabyte OC = $600 [some spare for games])
or
One AsusTek 3GB GTX780 for the 3D (at $750) where my wife will grind her teeth for a month.

Which way to go?

Does it matter for the magnificent highly detailed games that are coming out in 2014?

Noting that the 3GB VRAM GTX780 may be a bottleneck by the time 3 of those years are up for new games (so SLi would be no help).
Which way to go (Slower card more VRAM or fast and lower memory) for 3D ?
e.g.
Does it matter for the magnificent highly detailed games that are coming out in 2014 in 3D?

Did I mention it is for 3D GAMES AND MOVIES AND some Video Editing?

2GB 3GB 4GB VRAM for 3D gaming etc... ?

A couple of days and no responses.
I guess nobody knows anything about how GTX VRAM affects Stereoscopic 3D monitor outputs at 120Hz?

At least I get to see if Asus and NVidia release a GTX780Ti at Montreal or not, before buying something accurate.

Opinion is that Asus/Nvidia will announce a GTX770Ti, but that is flogging a well used horse of a chip.

Asus; ``GTX780Ti` PLEEEEEEEZE`.

I'm far from an expert, but seeing as you haven't gotten any responses I'll chime in.

2 gigs of VRAM are slowly getting too little. Skyrim with Ultra HD textures is known to go over those 2GB (although I think it was at a pretty high resolution), Crysis 3 on Ultra, 1080p, 3D monitor uses more than 1.5GB (I think the number was 1.7 or something). This could be a sign that in the following few years, games are going to require that extra GB of VRAM (by that I mean 3GB, 4 is probably an overkill in the next 5-6 years).
It highly depends on how the graphics engine is written though. BF3, for example, could eat up VRAM like a beast, just because it can. However, it doesn't need to. That's true in other cases as well.
Overall, I think 3GB would be plenty for the near future, but whether or not it would be an overkill and thus 2GB could also do the trick - that's a prediction that I can't make.

As for single GPU vs SLi - I'd advise against multi-GPU setup with the only exception of having one GPU already and buying another. When buying new - single is the way to go. It isn't as troublesome (multi-GPU has a lot of problems and even if they get fixed it's on a game per game basis and is a pretty slow process) and is less future-proof.

If I were you, I'd save up a bit and get a GTX 780. 3GB would probably be more than enough and you'll have one beast of a card.

P.S. The resolution you're playing at matters much more than the refresh rate of the monitor. 120Hz means simply that the monitor displays 120 frames per second. That doesn't hog VRAM... Bigger textures, however, do.

Well; the wait has been frustratinly good.

NVidia released a statement yesterday confirming my predicted request/desire.

A GTX 780 Ti is going to be released in a few weeks.

Just found out today.

Nobody knows about the VRAM issue then.

Anyway; my dream came true.

A GTX 780 Ti in a few weeks. that will drop the price of the GTX 780 five to ten per-cent?

These are looking great at $375 each; but an expensive *almost 2 x PS4 price?
GIGABYTE graphics board GeForce GTX760 OC model PCI-Ex16 4GB WINDFORCE3X GV-N760OC-4GD

Those TWO are the price of my FAV ASUSTeK GTX 780 CU II

The two are EXACTLY the same price as the ASUSTeK GTX780 I would have chosen.

I read today on the Galaxy graphics card site that if you are doing SLi, then you NEED more than 2Gb graphics card VRAM.
