ADSL maximum upload

Hey people :)

I've just upgraded my internet to 100Mbps down / 3Mbps up.
I've spoken with them for hours trying to convince them I want more upload and less download (50Mbps/5Mbps)
but had no luck. They kept telling me they just don't have that.

That had me thinking - what is the highest upload speed an ADSL supports?

Thank you,
Omga4000 :)

It depends on which version of ADSL (e.g. 1, 2, 2+), which annex (e.g. A, B, M), and what line settings they use.

On a Annex A line (normal), you're usually not going to see more than 1, maybe 1.5 Mb/s up. You may be on M, which moves some spectrum to upload. Still, 3Mb/s is pretty high for that.

However, there is no way for them to get you 100Mb/s over ADSL. VDSL maybe (at which point upload should be at least ten).

Are you sure you're not on Fibre/Cable? Because frankly, those speeds aren't possible on ADSL. That or they're ripping you off.

Thank you someone!

I've just spoken to them again and you are right, we are actually on VDSL.
You say a minimum of 10, though they do not offer more than 3.
Any clues on why? It's just freaking me out...

UPDATE: Another company in my country is operating on DOCSIS 3.0 which is a very very fast technology,
yet they're only offering a maximum of 2Mbp/s of upload.
How annoying :pfff:

Well, it should be able to sync on at least 8-10. They may limit it on their side though - but technically, if you can get 100Mb/s over the copper, ten in the other direction is practically guaranteed.

It's usually something to do with backhaul limitations, or just plain trying to push you onto an enterprise/business plan.
