Hey, I was wondering what RAM you recommend for a 3d Rendering workstation. I'm looking at 1600 ram with CL10 or 9 vs 1866 RAM with CL10/11. As far as i understand it, since my 4930k doesnt have a integrated graphics unit, everything above 1866 doesn't really make sense. 1866 with cl 10 should be better than 1600 cl9 for programs that benefit from the higher bandwith but updates slower if i got that right? so 1600 cl9 can update faster when being confronted with tons of small data, while 1866 is slower but can be fed with larger packets simultaneously?
also i was wondering if running my mem at a lower frequency eg. 1600 (1866 is recommended for the 4930k) will have any effect on my cpu performance? i guess not since there is no such thing as fsb anymore, but what do I know ;)

these are the kits that i was looking at:

4x8gb Mushkin Blackline Frostbyte 1600, CL 10 (255€)
4x8gb Corsair Vengeance low profile 1600, CL9 (280€)
4x8gb Corsair Vengeance Dominator 1866 CL9 (350€)
4x8gb Mushkin Blackline Ridgeback 1866 CL11 (308€)
4x8gb Mushkin Blackline Ridgeback 2133 CL11 (290€)

Solution
Theoretically 1866 mhz is the sweet spot. In reality it will have a no significant effect on render time. RAM is not a significant factor in rendering speed other than having enough of it.

Personally I would go with 1600 Mhz either the Corsair you listed or a crucial set(Im in the US so I linked the models for you to price).

ok, so basically, if i can get 1866 cl9 for less money (just found some GEIL EVO for 255€) than most 1600 cl9 around here, it should be a good choice based on what you said? then again 1866 cl8 probably isn't worth the extra 100€

Sure if you find a good deal pick up some 1866. Its just it really doesn't matter that much as long as you have enough memory. Having 32GB should be more than plenty for most rendering projects. I like the low profile memory because I don't ever have to worry about after market cooler clearance issues hence why I linked those memory sets.
