Hi

I am looking to purchase a new monitor, looking at a 27" screen with full HD Capability for a mixture of gaming and viewing films etc. I had ordered a U2711 after reading some reviews but it was dead on arrival, and I cant seem to find another at the same price (£430) so now need an alternative under £500!

Hi there,

Be careful with nomenclature. "Full HD" referes to 1080p resolution (1920x1080 pixels display) which is no longer the highest resolution available, it was "full" compared to 720p. There are many higher resolutions:

2560x1440
2560x1600
2560x2048 (QSXGA)
3840x2160 (4K)
7680×4320 (8K)

Am I correct in the exchange that £500 is equal about 800$ USD?

If so you are definitely in the range for a nice 2560x1440 display, perhaps even 2560x1600. The problem is there are no monitors at that resolution that I know of that are capable of refresh rates greater than 60Hz. For most people that is not a big deal whereas a rare subset of people say they get nauseous when gaming for prolonged periods at refresh rates and frame rates below 60Hz. Keep in mind that you would need a GPU capable of producing more than 60 FPS at 2560x1440 for this to be a problem, if at all.

I have been reading up on this particular 2560x1440 monitor which CAN be overclocked to 110-120Hz!

Personally I would buy that monitor. I do not own this model (yet) so I cant recommend it 100% but reviews are generally very impressive.
