Does two Samsung Pro 840 128GB in Raid 0 support Tirm? Or does it not need it. Explain to me what Trim is please!

Thanks, Derek

Yes, as you've read that trim is available in raid for several Intel Chipsets only. Amd users aren't as fortunate and must rely on the drives native garbage collection algorithms.

There is nothing you need to do save install the latest version of Intel RST, trim is built into the driver. Trim is not a function of the motherbd, neither is garbage collection which is built into the drives firmware.
there is no trim support for RAID SSDs. The way an SSD works which is different than a conventional HDD is that when you write data to a section which previously has data it has to clear it first instead of simply switching from 1 to 0 or vice-versa. This takes extra time and slows down your write speeds of the SSD, trim works in the background to reset these bits when you delete something so later down the road when you need to write data the clearing stage is already complete.

edit-- You do not 'need' trim support, the SSD will work fine without it but you will experience slow down over time, the only real benefit of RAID 0 SSD is really fast sequential read/write speeds, the main perk of an SSD is it's lightning fast random read/write speeds which are not affected by RAID 0.

My advice is to leave them as two separate drives.

After I posted this thread, I did some research and I read that it is possible to do Trim in Raid 0 with SSD now with the Intel 7x chipset. Motherboards now have a setting to allow it? Trim Raid 0 SSD would be awesome.

RAID 0 can close to double your throughput, it just doesn't help with seek times. Since SSDs have no seek time, RAID 0 (or 5 if you want to be safe) seems like the perfect companion to an SSD.. especially if you are dealing with large files.
