Okay so I’m studying a 3d animation course and so I’m building a PC to use mostly for 3d modelling in maya, photoshop ect. I think I’m mostly there, I just would like someone to check it for me and help me choose a motherboard.

CPU: i7 4770k

Motherboard: I’ve been looking at these 3, but to be honest I don’t really understand the differences or which one I should get. I want to have to option to overclock in the future, but I’m assuming these are all fine for this?
Gigabyte GA-Z87X-D3H
Asus Z87-Pro Socket
Asus Maximus VI HERO

RAM: Crucial 16GB DDR3 1600MHz Ballistix Sport Memory

HHD: WD 1tb blue
Plus another 1tb drive and a sandisk? SSD that I have (assuming that I ever manage to get the side of my case off)

Case: Antec 302

GPU: Okay so I currently have a Radeon HD 5770. Would be okay to use this for a while, as I don’t really have the money to spend on a new one at this moment in time. It will probably be a month or 2 before I do.

PSU: Corsair HX750 750W

Is this a good case fan to get?

Also can anyone suggest a good CPU cooler.

Thanks in advance.

If he's using the computer for animation and the like, I'm sure the i7 would be far better than your standard i5 gaming CPU.

Yeah, but look at his gpu... (he could use the extra $100 from buying the i5 instead of the i7 towards a better gpu).

The i7 is great if you can afford it. but if you don't have the money you could settle for a good i5 and if you find yourself needing more power just oc. But have an i7 and a GPU like that is pointless. your processor will well outdo it, it's overkill. You have enough ram there to OC if you have a cooler like the noctua suggested. 750W is a little much unless you want to have a lot of room to upgrade assuming the psu lasts long enough for it to matter. I'd go down to a 500W and get the better cooler an i5 and a better GPU such as the 7850.

Oh okay that makes sense. Thanks.
I'll get the i5 then and a new GPU.
Also my lecturer was pretty adamant that we should get a nvidia GPU for compatibly or something. To be honest I couldn’t find anything that supported this so I'm assuming that it’s just his opinion. Personally I’d get the 7850 suggested, but just a bit worried there’s an actual reason for getting a nvidia.

Most of it I opinionated and biased. There are differences in certain cards and the software but you cant really know what's better unless you experience them yourself and see how you like it. Btw from personal research I've found that for the price in the AMD category the 260x is the better over the 7850.
