Hello, I need some serious recommendations on how to fix a situation. I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section, and I also apologize for typing a wall of text, but I'm in need of urgent help from you guys.

I had a Gateway DX4850-57 with the following specs:

  • Intel i7 2600 Processor
    Nvidia GeForce GT420 1024MB
    1.5TB Hard Drive
    8GB DDR3 ram
    DVD Drive
    400w Power Supply
Gateway Motherboard (really doesn't have a name since its a pre-built gateway)

My friend recently upgraded to some new parts, so he gave me

  • Gigabyte B75M-HD3 Motherboard
    700w Xion XON-700P12N Powersupply
AMD Radeon 6850 1GB Graphics Card

I decided to buy a new case to swap out the Gateway case, a Corsair Carbide 200R.

My friend helped me transfer some of my old gateway parts into the new build:

  • i7 2600 Processor
    1.5TB Hard Drive
4 GB ram (the Gigabyte motherboard has only 2 ram slots)
    DVD Drive

We put in the Gigabyte motherboard, AMD 6850, and the 700w Power supply, double checked everything and turned it on.

First we turned the computer on while it was laying down, the case was not standing and you could hear the fans running (GPU, heatsink, PSU) and even the diskdrive light turned green. However, there was no display on the monitor, and we turned it off. Tried it with the integrated graphics on the motherboard, still no display.

We stood the case up and turned it on and the fans ran for a few seconds, and then just shut off and continues this cycle until hitting the power switch on the PSU in the back. (Think this is known as a "boot loop", no display shows what so ever by the way not even the BIOS)

When we turned it on when it was laying down, we noticed that the processor was not heating up, so my friend looked at the motherboard and said the CPU socket might have bent pins. He recommended just buying a new motherboard off newegg, but I just want to be sure the motherboard is the problem before I order anything

Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

Solution
If you have a good Light, Magnifying glass and a mechanical pencil ( without the lead ) and a steady hand if there is a bent pin or pins, you maybe able to straighten them out. Otherwise, a new MOBO may be in order.
start with the simple debug. make sure the cpu power plug on the motherboard is connected it be near the cpu or the edge of the mother board it be a four or eight pin plug. if that not plugged in your system wont post. make sure you used brass standoffs if the mb touching the tray it will short out and not post. check that the metal shield on the rear of the mb not shorting out the mb or the cpu heat sink not touching the mb tray. check that the clear cmos jumper on the right pins and the power and reset wires are on the right pins on the mb header. use the 400w ps and no video card to see if you go a bum power supply. check both power supplys to see if the mb and power supply that was in the system are wired the same. a lot of vendors force you to use there parts.

Could be the pins are bent, but more than likely, you are using the same OS that was in the Gateway, with all the Gateway drivers and stuff as it sounds like you just did a swap of the Motherboard. Didn't go well for me either years ago when I tried that ( swapping motherboards in a Gate FX6800-01e ).

We formatted the Hard Drive on another computer, so I'm not sure if it's the Gateway Drivers. Tried almost everything that smorizio said, tried the other powersupply and got the same result

Okay. Igf you formatted the Hdd on another computer, that wouldn't be an issue as you effectively wiped the hdd. Check the RAM & CPU.

Checked the RAM, swapped some out, tried with just one ram, still same issue. I'm becoming more convinced that it is the motherboard, because the processor doesn't heat up. Later I may just take some pictures of the CPU socket and post them here to get more feedback on the pins being bent..
