I will be putting together a pc shortly after ordering my parts on Cyber Monday. It will be used for gaming, specifically Battlefield 4 and a bit of Dayz, and just everyday use. I was originally going to buy the GIGABYTE GTX 760, its priced at $274.99 on Newegg.ca (I'm in Canada) http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125466 . However now I'm also considering the ASUS R9 270x because it's only $219.99 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121802 and it still seems capable of playing Battlefield 4 on Ultra settings, I know it's not quite as powerfull as the GTX 760 but is the performance difference really worth the $55 price difference? I also dont know what the sales will be like when the time comes.

I will be using:
- AMD FX-8320
- GIGABYTE GA-970A
- G.SKILL 8GB 1866
- CORSAIR CX600M
- 1TB HDD and 128 SSD

Thanks!

The GTX 760 has a higher clock rate and more shader modules and is in general about 10 fps better than the 270x.

270x = HD 7850

EVGA GTX 760 SC w/ ACX Cooling > Gigabyte GTX 760

You can not judge the graphics card by its core clock or shader units.
The GTX 760 also has less shaders. Not more.
It's still the faster card though.

And no, the R9 270X is not as fast as the HD 7850.
It's as fast as the HD 7870 XT.
There is a huge difference between these cards.

Still, the GTX 760 is almost 10% faster than the R9 270X.

The difference in performance is there. So is the difference in price.
Your decision really.

AMD has that new "Mantle" API coming out, and BF4 is the first game that's going to use it. We don't know how it affects performance but the game comes out on the 29th and surely there will be benchmarks within the first day or two comparing with and without mantle.

Actually, mantle comes out in December, so not really! I have the 760 and it kills BF4.

Put in other factors like battlefield 4 is optimised for AMD and mantle will be included. Which boosts the performance with the low level API.

No doubt, r9 270x will run better on battlefield 4 with much less cost.
The choice is quite obvious if u only want to planning to focus on battlefield 4

I know this is old, but keep in mind that the asus card is overclocked to 1.12ghz compared to 1ghz stock. It's capable of more oc too, the dcu2 cooler is pretty boss like that. As is, it has a texel rate of 89,000mtx/s compared to 80,000mtx/s stock, which is much closer to the 760's 94,000mtx/s. From there, with the included software you could even oc to 1.17ghz and match the texel rate of the 760 and even have headroom for about 100mhz more. I know that the memory clock can be increased to 1500mhz, because it's actually underclocked. It's rated for 6000mhz-E, the same as the 760. They use the exact same Elpida memory chips.

The 760 can be overclocked too, but if you think about it, the 270x is the better value and worth picking over the 760. They're so close to each other in terms of performance. The performance per dollar can't be beat.
