I currently have Centurylink as my provider because it is all we can get where i live. We are paying for 10mb down (highest we can get).

The problem is, during 6 am to 1pm it is fine around 6mb down 80 ms ping. from 2pm to 1am it is terrible! 0.70 download 600+ ping! I have called and they say the internet is exhausted in those peak hours and there is nothing they can do. It had been happening since 2012.

Is there anything i can do to get them to fix this? Or complain somewhere, call some place?
I want to get a better isp but they are all i can get where i live, and moving is not an option...

Im paying for 10 down and i get 0.70 not even half. Any suggestions would be great. I am a big gamer so this sucks even harder for me.

most likely they have too many users and not enough infastruture.

i'm on fios and we pay for 50/25 and i consistantly get this (actually slightly better than that) at any hour of the day, any day of the week.

now it is true that certain websites can get bogged down and cannot handle all of the traffic or that game servers can be the same way however this is different than your own internet being the cause of the slowdown. in the first case only select websites or utilities would lag however in the last case everything will lag.

definitely sounds like your isp just doesnt care about you and that they are ripping you off. honestly complaining isnt going to help in most cases.

i've noticed the same slowdown in cellular networks. i can...

If you don't like the service don't pay for it.

If you don't have an option then there probably isn't much you can do. I'm sure there is something in your contract that states you aren't guranteed 10mb down.

Those speeds are theoretical maximums. Peak hours are like that everywhere, more people using the internet = slower speeds. Think of it as a highway, during rush hour it's gridlock and you can't physically drive the maximum speed limit. If they are the only ISP in your area it must be a remote or rural area. You can't do anything about it other than get satellite internet or convince everyone in your area to now pay for their internet.

i've noticed the same slowdown in cellular networks. i can be browsing fine one minute but almost at exactly 4pm in our area the cell networks slow down to a crawl. more demand than the system can handle.
