Gaming PC upgrade advice needed

I bought a budget gaming PC about 2 years ago. I haven't upgraded since. Specs:

CPU: AMD FX4100 - stock cooler.
GPU: ATI 6850
Motherboard: Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 (AM3+)
RAM: 8GB Vengeance 1600mhz
Hard drive: 1TB
PSU: 500W

It's been an adequate, albeit not exceptional computer, but I think it's time I upgraded some parts. The CPU specifically.

Right now I think I have 3 or 4 feasible options as to how I could upgrade:

1. Buy an Intel i5 4670K/3570K and a new motherboard (Current one is AM3+) for somewhere in the region of £220/£230.

2. Buy an AMD FX8350 for £145. (No need to purchase new motherboard - it's AM3+).

3. Buy an AMD FX9590 for £240.

4. Scrap buying a new CPU altogether, get a 7870/R9 270x or similar graphics card.

Which one should I choose? Or are there any other options which would be more beneficial? Bear in mind I am not looking solely for performance, rather which is best in terms of price : performance ratio. Games I play/will be playing - BF4, Planetside 2, AC4, The Witcher 3, Watch Dogs, Dark Souls 1/2, etc.

Also any suggestions about any other areas which would greatly benefit from an upgrade would be helpful.

Thanks.

FX 8350 seems like a good option, as you don't need a mobo upgrade. You will also benefit a lot from a GPU upgrade, so I'd say one of the first then the other if you can afford it later.

Edit: I was too slow to respond to this haha.

Wow! That's a STEAL, I bought my 7870XT for $250 and it was a bargain then. That is an amazing deal...that card for ~$180.

Will probably get this. FX8320 + 7870 - sounds solid.
