Will I lose all my games, movies and such if I install windows 8.1?

According to this article I found, you will not lose anything as long as you are upgrading from Windows 8. If you're upgrading from XP, Vista or 7 however, then yes, you definitely should back everything up.
Just be on the safe side and back the important things up just in case.

No you won't. You will keep all your data, files, and settings. I did notice after I upgraded some of my nvidia settings got reset, but other than that it was a smooth, easy upgrade.

I don't and probably never will run W8 but wouldn't 8.1 be something like a "patch" or "service pack" for W8 and therefor not cause any troubles?
