Hey guys! :)

I am really pumped about Battlefield 4, even more than BF3. I built my PC specifically to play BF3 anyway, and now waiting for the release of Battlefield 4.

I OC'ed my i5 3570K to 4.5ghz. in CPU-Z it reports 1.196v.

While gaming, hovering around 62c max in coretemp. I wonder if I will be able to push this thing further(I haven't attempted anything higher yet). I started at stock voltage and it BSOD, then I increased it to +0.05, same story BSOD, then I increased it to +0.15 and to my surprise I played BF4 Beta without crashes and been playing, BF3 without crashes, same with MOH. I stressed the CPU with Prime95 and still pretty good, no BSOD. I have been running @ 4.5ghz all week without any hiccups.

The CPU cooler that I am using is a EVO 212+.

The question is If I will be able to increase my Min/avg/max fps in BF3/BF4? or are the benefits vs deterioration of the CPU not worth it, Can someone enlight?

I want to get the most out of my CPU and GPU combo. I will probably buy a second GPU to SLI (EVGA GTX 670 FTW Edition 2GB)

I achieved this OC by increasing the multiplier to 45 and core voltage by +0.15, everything else including LLC is on auto.

While gaming temps are around 62c and I will do a stress test when I get home to see my max temps since I can't remember exactly to what did they max at.

My system specs are as follow:

Win7 64bit
Case: Haf 912 with one fan on front and back
CPU: i5 3570k @ 4.5 Ghz (Temps of 62c while in game. Full load temps of about 80c)
CPU Cooler: Evo 212+
SSD: Crucial M4 120GB
HDD: Seagate 1TB 7200RPM
RAM: 8GB Crucial Ballistix 1600
GPU: EVGA GTX 670 FTW 2GB
PSU: PC & Cooling 750w 80 Certified Non-Modular
Monitor: Benq 2420T 120hz

Lovely setup!

I have my 3570K @ 4.7GHz which gets about 75°C peak. Same cooler too. You could try to push it further but many people play it safe and stay under 80°C. I personally don't like the noise or voltages I have to use to get high OC's, but 80°C under full load is not bad at that OC. Run prime95 and check the Vcore then, you may find it fluctuates and averages higher than 1.196V.

Thanks man! it is a sweet processor. I really like it :)

Yeah, I don't mind 80c under full load but I wouldn't want to go any higher than that.

I am going to try to go to 4.7 tonight and do some stress tests to see what I can get :)

I really really want my Min frames in BF3 or BF4 to be as high as possible

Battlefield 3 is more GPU dependent. Overclocking the i5-3570k gives almost no framerate improvements in BF3, and will likely remain the same case with BF4 as it also uses the Frostbite Engine (improved of course)

Look at this:
http://www.vortez.net/articles_pages/intel_ivy_bridge_core_i5_3570k_core_i7_3770k_review,12.html

The i5-3570k at 3.8Ghz is a whopping 2 frames faster than the stock i5-2500k (BF3)

So I'd say keep it at 3.5Ghz, no point drawing more power only to make it run hotter and risk its lifespan.
The situation is the same with most games, with the exception of very CPU heavy games like the ARMA series or Kerbal Space Program, Gmod

Your all set for BF4 really, have fun fragging :)

So I did try 4.7Ghz but I had to apply +0.145, that bumped the core voltage to about 1.3v to make it stable in eveything. After running Blend Test in Prime95 over night I reached 105c on one of the cores and all the other ones were pretty hot too. So I just went back to 4.5Ghz and hopefully I can find a way to cool it down some and try to bump it back up to 4.7Ghz at 1.3v.

My cable management is pretty bad so airflow is a problem in my case.

I am at 4.5Ghz and about 1.2v and is running stable with max temps of about 80c after 2hrs in Prime95

hahahaha :)

I don't think it is impossible, you just have to have the right cooling to do it. In my case I will need a better cooling than my EVO 212+, but I heard that other cooling solutions won't cool this thing down by much anyway.

Not impossible :) . You have to be lucky. I've been able to push as high as 5.1GHz, unstable and melty hot! So much so that I did not even try running IBT or prime95. (65 odd °C running idle, so why risk it haha). The highest I have been while stable is 4.8GHz, but that is also too hot for my likings. Maybe if I had a decent cooler and was willing to delid, I might be able to get 5.1 stable.

Oh, I was not at all saying it was impossible. I really never overclock my computer, (very minor on my GPU), so I, just judging by stock speeds, thought it was very impressive.

Oh yup. Yeah, Ivy is hot. Most people might get 4.4 - 4.6GHz. Not to sure on the stats though. Overclocking for me is/was more of a fun/bragging rights thing. I was amazed at how far I could get too. (The performance benefits these days isn't what it used to be, apparently).

@moshe22, I would look at what huilun02 has said. Doesn't mean stop OCing though. Keep going if you want. Try to OC your GPU too, lots of guides for that. A GPU overclock is more likely to help if you are worried about low FPS.

As for CPU deterioration, it isn't huge from OCing. I have an old CPU that ran for a solid 8 years hot. P4 Northwood I believe. (Single core, Hyperthreaded @ 3GHz haha :p ). It was left alone for a bit but still runs now. it has been put in an old PC to start a wee server project. CPU's are pretty tough.

So I was able to hit 4.5ghz @ 1.186v stable in Prime95 and games.

GPU OC +23 and boosting all the way to 1300MHz and +400 on the memory stable as well while running Unigine Valley and Haven and playing games.

I will probably add a second GTX 670 FTW Edition and I think I will be set. otherwise sell my 670 FTW and buy 1 GTX 780.

2 670's in SLI are better than 1 780, right? I know that 2 660's in SLI is = 680.

Yeah, the R9 290x just came out at $550. That is insanely cheap for the amount of performance you get.

It is essentially as powerful and in many cases even more powerful than a GTX Titan for half the price. I just read the review

I am sooooooooo pumped about this announcement, it is hard to believe!~

My new plan is to sell my EVGA GTX 670 FTW and buy a R9 290x when custom cards start coming out from ASUS or Gigabyte.

I can't find how much a 290x is, only a 280x. With that being said, the 280x kicks a GTX 660, but it is $100 more, and is a joke compared to a Titan.

Here is the review: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-r9-290x-hawaii-review,3650.html

From what I have read the 270x is comparable to the GTX 660 where as the 280x is more of a mid-high end card.

280x and 290x are 2 completely different animals though.

think about this:

Nvidia have for Mid-high end GPU the 770, 780 and Titan, leaving the 670, 680, 690 out of the equation for now.

Now, the 770 is about ~$450, the 780 is on the ~$650 range and the Titan is at 1,000

The 290x replaced essentially all three of them for an amazing price! $550

The only one that is cheaper is the 770 but then again the Titan and 290x are wayy above the 770 performance wise for a little bit more money.

Oh, thanks! Don't get me wrong, for the price of 4 Titan vs the price of 4 290x's, you could practically build another computer with the money you save using AMD, and performance will be better!
