i have a dlink wireless router and normally if i want to access it i enter 192.168.0.1.

however the cable guy came to replace my cable box and gave me a time warner wireless box. i hooked up my dlink to it but when i entered 192.168.0.1, i got the TW wireless box. I DID'T WANT THIS.

so he disable the wireless function on the TW box, connected my dlink and gave my dlink a new url, 192.168.x.xxx, which allowed my to access the dlink. this was years ago and i don't have that info.

can someone tell me how to get into the dlink. "ipconfig" in the dos command doesn't get it. i tried a "tracert" and i don't see any relevant info.

i was told there's a run command to find out but i don't know it.

any help greatly appreciated

Solution
Plug directly into the router in question.
From an elevated command prompt, type 'ipconfig'

That will/should give you whatever that PC is connected to.

However...you have other issues.
You had a D-Link, working OK
The cable guy came (why?) and added a new router
Now the D-Link is plugged into the new router.

That mostly can't work properly. It's not just the wireless functions that need to be disabled.

the old cable box was not working, so the replacement was the wireless cable box.
i had always assumed that when the cable guy disabled the wireless function on the ubee(time warner wireless box) he basically turned it into a simple cable box. anyway, it always worked.

what do you think might the other problems be. you're saying this ubee is just another router? or is it a cable box with a wireless router functionality.

Generally the default gateway is your router. So if you go to the ip address the ipconfig shows as the default gateway what do you get into.

If it is the TW cable box then what they likely did was make your dlink into a AP and assigned it another address on your lan segment. When you run as a AP the IP address is not used for anything other than management so it will not be in any of the ARP or other tables.

What you will need to do is look at the bottom of the device and get the mac address. Now either manually or with a ping scanning tool ping all the possible addresses in your network. Now you could just assume any strange IP that responds is the device but you can also issue the ARP -a command and compare the mac address to be sure.

i tried the easiest solution given, and hardwired the computer to the dlink instead of the ubee. when i ipconfig from the dos prompt i got 192.168.0.197. but when i typed that into the url bar from both the computer and the remote computer had got NO result.
