how well can i play Crysis 3?

Solution

You'd be able to play it pretty well. I'd say at least 40 fps at high (not very high) settings without AA at 1920x1080, but that's just a guess. It would be higher if your CPU wasn't such a huge bottleneck. You should try overclocking, but it'll only mitigate the bottleneck, it won't get rid of it completely. Only way to get rid of that bottleneck is to upgrade that CPU.

ya im debating whether or not on upgrading to the fx 8350 or i5 4670k havnt made up my mind, lol i keep thinking intel but then im like, but intel is cheaper and its an 8 core processor base clocked at 4ghz

You can't compare core speeds across manufacturers (you can't even compare them within manufacturers sometimes depending on model). On a per-core basis the 8350 is actually slower than the 4670k. Moreover most games will not scale well with multi-core CPUs past four cores (though this may be changing), meaning right now 4670k will outperform the 8350 in most games.

Also keep in mind that the 8350 does not actually have eight physical cores (it only has four). Some cores share resources and so in some sense it is not a "true" 8-core processor. However, it's still better than the hyperthreading deal Intel does with some of their CPUs.

Cores and frequencies sound good on paper, but there's a whole other number of factors that are involved. When it comes down to it, Intel CPUs have far better core architecture, and an i5-4670k will outperform an FX-8350 most of the time across the board, and especially for gaming. aznricepuff said it nicely, the i5-4670k is the better choice and the FX-8350 doesn't truly have 8 cores.

To be fair, the FX-8350 can get close to an i5-4670k for some games, which is great. However, for other games there can be quite a large disparity between the two CPUs, and most importantly, my main gripe with AMD CPUs is that there are a good number of games out there which has great average frame rates and then some pretty bad minimums which kills immersion for me. I just say that the safer bet is an i5-4670k. It's far more future proof and the extra $40 will be worth it.
