Hi all,
I have recently purchased a Buffalo Ministation portable external 2.5" HDD. USB 2/3 connection, no external powersource. Works perfectly on my office computer running Win7 64bit. But NOT recognised by my laptop (also Win7 64bit). Drive spins up but not visible in Explorer or Disc Management. Tried on a second laptop with the same result.

I would be most grateful is someone could help. Have search the threads with no success.

Are you absolutely certain it's not shown in Disk Management? It may not be immediately seen by you because it will have no name and no drive letter, plus it will probably have the word "Raw" as the description. This is typical of an external drive for which Windows has failed to assign a drive letter, so it can't be shown in Explorer.

You can right-click that ribbon and choose "Change Drive Letter & Paths", then click "Add".

Yes, Im absolutely certain, thats why I wrote it. The internal drive is listed and the dvd-rom but nothing more. On the desktop, the external is visible of course.

Im beginning to wonder if its due to a poor physical connection to the usb socket although Ive never had a problem with any of my usb flash drives. I'll post more later.

thx
