Hi everyone,

I just finished building a new computer and I have been stress testing my OC with AIDA64. The temperature maxes out at 80C but is averaging 72C under full load. The idle temp is between 32-36 degrees Celsius. I have the i7-4770k overclocked to 4.6GHz on 1.232V and I have read on here that Haswell chips run hot but I wanted to know if this was a safe temperature.
I can run AIDA64 for hours without any errors. All temps were recorded in HWMonitor.

My machine has the following components:

Case - Cooler Master HAF-X
CPU - i7-4770k at 4.6GHz
Cooler - Corsair H100i
Mobo - Asus Rampage VI Formula
Power Supply - Corsair AX860i
Memory - G.Skill Trident 16GB (4x4GB) 2400 9-11-11-31
GPU - GTX 770 4GB

Thanks for your help!!

With day to day use I would say 72C should be the max, while stress testing many people allow the temps to go above this as stress testing puts an unrealistic load on the CPU. I personally don't feel comfortable letting mu CPU go over 80C whilst stress testing.

65C is perfectly fine, I...

Hi omgitzfatal,

Thanks for your reply. What is the hottest Haswell chips can get safely while being stress tested?
Under heave load my chip never gets above 65C will that change the useful life of the chip at all?

Thanks!

65C is perfectly fine, I expect you'd have long replaced the CPU before you'd notice any serious degradation, providing the voltage you use is within safe limits.

Lol dud that is weird i literaly have the exact same components in my pc i built about 2 months ago the only thing i have diferent is the GPU. I jusr bought a GTX 780ti to replace my GTX 770....Unfortunatly my 4770k chip isnt as good as yours i could only get it to run stable with ok temps wit core #1 at 4.5 and cores #3,4,5 at 4.4 at 1.275v with idle temps at 30°c and stress testing around 75°c..
