C drive shows low disk space

Solution
How much free space does it have and what size drive is it? Does it have another Partition? You could buy a larger disk and clone your system on to it. In My Computer, click the Tools menu then on Folder Options then click the View tab and tick "Show hidden files and folders" then untick "Hide protected system files and folders", click Apply and OK.

Then, go into c:\ windows and delete all the files in blue which statr with a $ symbol. They are only folders that once contained Windows Updates you no longer need to keep. Then scroll down to the Software Distribution folder and to Download. Empty that folder.

Look in Control Panel>Power options and make sure Hibernation is turned off then in System, adjust the size of...

Look in Control Panel>Power options and make sure Hibernation is turned off then in System, adjust the size of System Restore so it takes up only 4% of the disk space.

Restart the computer and see hwo much space you freed up.

andrisa, if you hadn't turned up as a member of Tom's less than an hour ago, found this month old thread, researched Softpedia and posted a link for a wonder product here, I may not have thought it was Commercial Spam for your own gain. Now I'm very suspicious.

That's why I removed your link and also because I'm not willing to download it and see just how far it goes without wanting to be paid for an upgrade.

Plese read the Tom's Rules of Conduct before posting again.

I'm afraid to say that the next two monthly Windows Updates will eat that up if you don't save another file of your own. A 40Gb drive is way out of date now and if you're proposing to continue using XP past its end of support date next April, I suggest you buy a larger disk and clone the system on to that.

Once you've done that and are satisfied the clone is working properly, you can delete everything except your account's section of Documents and Settings from the 40Gb disk and pop it into a caddy for use as a backup external drive.

Thanks for the BA - glad you sorted it.
