Just finished updating to 8.1. After logging in, all I get is a black screen with the mouse cursor. The cursor is responsive, but nothing else is. The image link is what I get when I open the Task Manager. Help?

Updated from 8.0 Pro

A lot of lenovos have a recovery partition that you can use to go back to factory settings. It would delete any data on there of course, but it is one alternative.

Although I would check around for other solutions, that is more of a last-resort solution

Thanks. I'm hoping to figure something else out before resorting to this. All my data is backed up. Just trying to figure out what happened.

Out of curiosity, can you boot into safe mode? I don't remember how exactly it goes on windows 8 but see if you can do that.

And are you using 8 or 8.1 drivers? Most places came out with a round of drivers for 8.1 about a week or two ago

No, Safe Mode is a no-go. Same thing happens.

The only other fix i can think of other than smacking the computer (i don't recommend this) is to use install disc/recovery media to attempt to repair the installation, although I don't know how this would work considering any media you had would likely be for 8 and so wouldnt play nice with 8.1; at which point you would likely have to pay lenovo for 8.1 recovery media discs. Other than that, you could keep waiting, others might have more solutions.

If all the data is backed up at some point you might just want to go ahead and use the recovery partition and attempt it again. That is likely what lenovo will tell you to do.

**Also, another confirmation, the onekey recovery partition works fine correct? You can get into that, BIOS, etc.?
