Hi!

I have to decide today so i need urgent help with this one.

I have a Corsair Obsidian 550D case and I want to install a CPU cooler in it but I want to keep the case quiet. I am stuck between the H90 and the H100i. Do i have to remove the top cover to install the h100?(Which affects the amount of noise.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8eA7RR5q30 (At the end of this video you can see the h100 installed and the top cover is still on the case, but I couldn't be sure.)

The second option is the H90. (rear mount) But corsair advises you to install the fan as an intake and you have to remove the only exhaust fan the case has in the process to mount it on the rear of case.

Please help me guys I'm stuck with this dilemma. :(

Btw: my motherboard is a Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 (rev 1.0)

Yes you will have to remove the top cover if you want the H100i mounted to the top of the case. This is so that the warm air can get out of the case. Yes it will affect the amount of noise. There has to be an air outlet wherever you mount the radiator. Same goes for the H90. Thats just how liquid coolers work. Usually you'll want the radiator to be the the exhaust point on the case, otherwise the heated air will stay in the case turning it into an oven.

You will find that most companies that sell all in one water coolers will recommend that you set it up as an intake. By doing that you will get the best CPU temperatures because your passing cooler air over the radiator, the flip side to that is you are bringing hot air into the system and your other components will be hotter.

I would set it up as an exhaust because even though you might lose a couple degrees of cooling on the CPU your other components, especially the GPU, will be cooler. And for the most part when your gaming with a large water cooler the CPU stays frosty no matter if it's intake or exhaust where as the GPU will always be going full load so if you can make that cooler by any means necessary it's a good idea.

Corsair says that I should install the fan as an intake but that is just pointless to me. I mean you take away the only exhaust the case has and change it with an intake fan. Turning the case into an oven just like you said. So if i mount it as an exhaust will there be any problems?

I'll be mounting the H90 on the rear of the 550D as an exhaust. Any ideas on this? Is it possible?

Thank you for the replies. They are much appreciated. :)

Again, thanks for the reply. Is it possible to mount the H90 (rear mount) on a 550D. I couldn't find any info on this anywhere. But i think the case supports 140mm rear fans. But I'm not sure...

Thank you so much, you made the dilemma go away... I decided to get the H90, according to the reviews it's a pretty good cooler. I'll PM you when it arrives and tell you the results. Again, thank you. Have a nice day :)
