Windows 8.1 Search is Messed Up

I updated to Windows 8.1 yesterday and when I search for anything like "Device Manager", "Power Options", "User Account" or "Optimize Drives", there are no search results at all. These are all settings related and in Windows 8 would show up under the "Settings" category in the search screen. Oddly, they show up in search results for a minute or two after restarting Windows. Is it a bug? Anyone else experiencing this issue?

I haven't found any oddities like that yet, I'll keep an eye out.

Just had heaps of trouble getting it to upgrade in the first place. Hilariously it turns out my mouse, of all things, was causing the issue. If you own a Steelseries mouse, uninstall their software. And you can't re-install it once 8.1 is installed, it will hose the system. Hopefully they will have a new release soon.

I didn't experience this myself, but if you own an Nvidia video card it is also practically mandatory to pre-install the 8.1 compatible drivers (the latest is), otherwise it will crash during upgrade, and re-install 8.

I have a GTX 560 ti which oddly I was able to use to upgrade to Windows 8.1 without having to update the Windows 8.1 compatible drivers. It seems I'm the only one with this issue, I'm hoping its just a bug and I don't have a corrupted Windows installation.

You don't need 8.1 drivers for nvidia, it worked just fine with the 8 drivers (although I did update them after the upgrade).

If the searching issue persists then maybe ask microsoft or google around, but if it's a one time thing it might have just been a fluke. Still, doesnt hurt to check around, or submit a bug report even

As an addendum to the OP. It seems that the search is no longer just targeting your local computer. It defines itself as searching 'everywhere' so it might be just taking too long to scour the internet when you are used to quick searches.

First thing I am going to try to revert.
