Hey guys,

I wanted to know if an SSD really makes your PC boot up faster.

With my 1TB Seagate 7200rpm HDD it boots up in about 30 to 40 seconds and with login 50 sec.

How fast can a SSD boot up?
an how much do i spend on it?

And what speeds do i have to look for?

Yes, a SSD makes the system boot up faster, but that's not the reason to get one. Overall, the SSD makes all your applications pop open in a flash. You click and you see it. You want to find a file and load the program.....in a snap with SSD. You really will notice the difference if you take your system from a HDD to a SSD.

I built mine without SSD and I thought it was fast. But I got a SSD on sale and loaded everything again and was blown away at the speed. Everything I do takes no time.

You can get a $100 Samsung Evo 120gb that is plenty. You don't need a top of the line SSD to benefit.

I can vouch for envy14tpe's solution. Have converted 4 computers to ssd and the difference in speed is brilliant. Last install was the Samsung evo120gb and as said, it is sufficient for the boot drive plus a lot of progs . Have just installed a secondary SSD for the larger files, films etc and it now gives me the same response whatever I open.

Thanks for fast reply :)
And I think my next upgrade will be a SSD

You won't regret getting a SSD. You will notice the difference right away.

I have a 120gb SSD and it has my OS, all programs, and two games (BF3 is 35gb) yet I still have 20gb free. Other games can be put on HDD. So you don't have to install all programs or games on the SSD.

One note.. install SSD with HDD unplugged.

you will notice a difference in boot time with a ssd and to make it faster (some techy needed) you could run two ssds in raid 0 say u buy one 60gb and like the speed but need more storage get another later down the line when you have some more spare cash and run them in raid 0 to get a even faster speed and plus you have a 120gb ssd then which is a lot faster than a hdd.

ps ssd is one of the best upgrades out there... accept probs from a Pentium 3 to a i7... then yeah second best:)

dont forget to over provision your SSD by 20GB because the performance is more or less 50% what it was when full. Press start type msconfig hit enter and select the startup tab and disable any unwanted/unnecessary startup programs also try looking in your bios for any fast boot options if applicable.
