Two power cables in GPU?

Hi,
I've been using a single cable that plugs into my PSU and splits into an 8 pin and 6+2 pin PCI-E.
I have decided to upgrade to individually sleeved cables and I was wondering if it would be OK to use TWO SEPARATE cables (one PSU to 8 pin PCI-E and one PSU to 6 pin PCI-E). I'm just not sure about this because won't there be double power going to my GPU?

Thanks!

I recently came across a system running a GTX680 using a single Molex string plugged into 2 Molex to PCIe 6-pin adapters to one card. Essentially, the GTX680 was running its entire 180W through a single 12V wire from the power supply. The guy was complaining about instability and shutdowns. I found it had partially melted the insulation on the wire near the PS and had been shorting out against the PS casing. We replaced the power supply with one with proper connectors, and now he's running great.

Your video card will only draw the power that is required, so you can't overload it.

Would have to see the wiring to give an exact answer. If it is an actual splitter that would be sort of bad. But if it is just a bundle that splits and the individual wires go all the way to the power supply, then it would be functionally identical to using separate cables.
