does a GT640 need to be connected to the power supply of just to the motherboard. If i could get it for £59.99 is that good?

The 640 doesn't need an extra power connector.Though, don't go for it. Go for the HD 6670 GDDR5 instead..Look at this review by Tom's:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gt-640-revi...
HD 6670 GDDR5 is better than GT 640 DDR3 in most cases.Go through all the pages of the review, and you'll find the 6670 to be better than the 640,even at a lesser price tag.

HD7750 outperforms the GT640 by more than 30% in some games. Unless you exclusively need to use CUDA for certain applications, better take the 7750.

P.S Both of them don't need any additional cables.

Well,if the PSU is a branded one,it doesn't matter. If you meant the 6670,then it consumes just 60-65W max.Don't worry.Your overall system should be below 300W,as long as yu don't have some power hungry cpu like the amd fx in your PC.

Okay,7750 consumes lesser power, like 45W during load. So,guess you'll be fine. But it depends on the overall power consumption of your system. If your other components are not power hungry, you'll be fine.Though,it's said atleast a 350W PSU is necessary, for he 7750,as well as 6670.Anyway,you could try.
