Can a powerful PSU and video card fry a stock motherboard?

I have a 500watt Rosewill PSU and an ATI Radeon HD 4870 Sapphire video card. Will it fry a stock HP motherboard that's about 3 years old?

I have a quad core intel processor and 6gb of ram if that helps anything lol

Is there any kind of motherboard besides stock? You could use 1200w PSU and a titan with a 6 year old mother board and it would work just fine :)

Helps to match up the Motherboard to the PCIe socket, i.e. putting a 3.0 video card in a 2.0 socket. I really don't know the difference. I am assuming one is faster and one is slower. Anything that is overclocked could overtax the motherboard. I never overclock anything. I guess the signals going to the PCIe go through a chipset or some pathway that could overheat and cause problems.

Nope your fine their too. PCIe is backwards compatible. And unless something weird happens it should be forward compatible also. Theres only one instance where you can't use a newer PCI-E card on an older mobo. And that can be solved with a bios update most times. It has to do with using a 2.1 card in a 1.0/1.1 slot. I forget the exact reason it doesn't work for certain cards on certain mobos but I am pretty sure it had something to do with PCI-E power draw...
