What happened to all of my space?

Just bought a laptop, an MSI GS70, with a 250 SSD and a 750 HDD. I've only had this about a month, and slowly, I'm moving more and more files over from my desktop, to my laptop, but I keep my SSD clean, only with 2 games (Skyrim and Dead Space 3), and my school work. That should be about 20-30 gigabytes maximum. But through what I see, my SSD has filled up, and as of a few moments ago, completely. I have all of my downloads going into my HDD.

What's taking all of my space??! I dont have much on the SSD. Is it restore files? Something?

Shadow copies / system restore / page file / Hibernation file if you have not disabled and removed the file.

Winodws 8 even has some other files that eat space if you happen to be on Win8

To remove Hibernation you should be able to use the command prompt with powercfg -h off

You can adjust the page file to a fixed smaller size if you want as well. I do not recommend fully removing it.

Setting the system protection space to a smaller value will reduce the amount of space restore points and whatnot take.

I can't seem to find this hibernation file. I removed a restore file for my (C:) drive but i only cleared up about 4 GB

Windows unfortunately isn't very rich in terms of system monitoring utilities. Luckily there are many 3rd party software applications that let you study/map your hard drives. You can search for others of course, but I use/recommend WinDirStat.

I disabled it, but what's it supposed to do? Is space now cleared up?
