Hello,
I have a Dell Optiplex 745 desktop (DT), currently is processor is a Pentium D, I looked up on my computer through the hardware option, in the menu and it says its running Intel Pentium D CPU 2.8 ghz.
Now i am not the smartest by any means when it comes to computer but I would like to play the State of Decay game i purchased and i need my computer to be good for that.
I was wondering since my computer says I'm running 2.8 ghz would it be good or bad to change over to an Intel core 2 duo e6600 2.40 ghz or e6700 2.66 ghz (also i am reading mixed things, will my optiplex 745 DT even run an e6700?)?

Final thing I believe my graphics card is lacking and will also not allow my game to play, what is a few good options for a better graphics card in my computer?
PS not even sure how to check what mine is.

I know i am asking alot but any help would be greatly appreciated.
thank you

What's the model of the pentium D you have? I'm assuming its a Pentium D 945 which has a TDP of 95
it should be a socket 775 which means any core 2 duo should work fine
State of decay's minimum requirement lists an E6600 (TDP of 65W) so if you can find a cheap second hand e6600 or better, go for it

The Optiplex desktop has a power supply of 280W according to this

So your choice of video card would also be pretty limited
I guess a Radeon 6570 or 6670 should help you play the game at least on the lower settings

Yes the 745 will run a Core 2 Duo, but I am not sure about any speed. I have refurbished a few of these recently and I seem to remember certain Core 2s resulting in a yellow light on the power button when booting up.
Also, you are right with the limitations with the GPU. Obviously, it needs to a low profile because of it being a DT, but you also have to watch out for those capacitors sitting right next to the PCIE slot. One with a small heatsink/fan is preferable, otherwise you will be hampered by the caps.
