So I built my first ever computer last night, using:

AMD FX-6300
Amd m5a78l-m lx plus Mobo
corsair vengeance 8 gb ram
Arctic cooler 7 Rev 2 CPU cooler

(if you want to know any more let me know)

I Spent like literally two minutes reading about my motherboard and how to over clock. I installed a few temperature and such monitoring things, and tested before. I was getting 20 degrees C on my Processor before any overclocking.

I went in and changed my CPU to 4200 GHZ, not really that high, but still quite a nice bump, and after running prime 95 for an hour, my temps are at.....22 degrees celsius.

IS something wrong here? or is this normal for OC"ing to be that simple, and being that stable? The temps barely went up at all!

seems like the software you're using is off, try using RealTemp, CoreTemp or AIDA64 to monitor the core temperatures.

also, overclocking software that's been installed can cause the misreadings as well.

CoreTemp is showing 23 degrees C right now lol. I could not get RealTemp to work on the first try so I just gave up.

I should also mention, that the room I am currently using is at 52 degrees F. I keep my bedroom VERY cool (It helps me sleep)

your bedroom is indeed extremely cool but, i find it very odd that the core temp would only rise by a single degree celsius especially after a 1 hour P95 stress test.

try AIDA64, download the trial version and run their stress test. there's also a tab where you can monitor your system temperatures within the stress test window.

also, you can double-check that there are no other overclocking/temperature monitoring programs running in the background.

I just ran an hour on prime 95 blend, at 4.1 GHZ and my temperature DID go up today, to 34 C after one hour of the stress test. I will try out AIDA64, and see if that gives me like numbers.

I should mention I am using "Rosewill Challenger" case, the three stock fans it came with, and one extra low profile fan on the side case slot.

I would cross-reference on a host of temperature monitoring programs - pay close attention to the voltages and modifiers and make sure that your CPU isn't throttling.

That said, though, I don't think your Motherboard is quite cut-out for safe overclocking. I think, at most, it has a 4-phase Voltage Regulator Module - and unless they moved it to directly below the CPU Socket, I do not think it has a heatsink attached.

Is it not even safe for a small overclocking like that? It was pegged at 100% 4100GHZ for an hour, wasnt throttling

i think you should be ok with light overclocking but, i haven't had a AMD cpu for a while.
