This is just a heads up

There might be a problem with windows 8.1 and lucid MVP
I have the software that came with the z77 motherboard
And windows 8.1 would boot up into a blank black screen
had to uninstall in safe mode to fix it

is there a known issues with windows 8.1 list somewhere?
Maybe the mods should make a list?

Actually Lucid logix MVP is only compatible with Windows 7 right now I heard that there would be a bios Update from Asus so that windows 8 users can use it(LLMVP) as well It did not say on the box when I bought the board that Lucid logix was not windows 8 ready though that is what the Asus motherboard says it is right on the box in big bold letters. But if you go to the site of where your motherboard is from that is where people will find at the bottom of a description that Lucid MVP is Win 7 compatible only. I thought I should ave known this before as well

Its is available for download for windows 8 (doesn't specify windows 8.1)
http://www.lucidlogix.com/driverdownloads-mvp.shtml (windows 7/8)

actually checked Asus website after what you said
and its available to download for windows 8 as well but not if you pick windows 8.1 (P8Z77-V LX)

strange thing for me was i was able to install and load Windows 8.1 on the 1st boot (after a few BSOD saying system service exception)
but after a restart i get black blank screen (after windows logo)
after reading around and trying alot things to fix it
was able to fix it after uninstalling Lucid MVP Virtu in safe mode (disabling startup wont work)

You are right there is a few spots where you can download LlMVP for windows 8 but I could not get it to work either with my P8Z77 V LX. I remeber running inot some hassles while trying the setup applications and did not go any furrther after that. I sounds nice though 60% perfrormance inrcrease on your discrete GPU as well as your intergreted GPU but I would oly use that something happened to my greaphics card and even then I would not think it would do much for games. but now I am curious to get loo into getting Lucid to work......I think you have to flash your bios to get it to work which i am not a fan of doing.

Strange
I never had problems with Win8 (just Win8.1)
And I have the same mobo as you
Have a early build firmware as well
Never updated the firmware either

Did you enable it in bios?
And installed intel graphics drivers?

Well not much point now if you updating/updated to Win8.1

After a whole weekend of failed 8.1 upgrades I have 8.1 up and running now, most of the problems seem to be linked to the integrated Intel graphics chip and drivers in the Intel core i3,5,& 7 processors, some people have managed to resolve it by removing the drivers in safe mode. As usual this didn't work for me!!! but with some systematic debugging, and analysis of crash dumps I was able to track it down to the Virtu MVP software that was installed.

Even though I had disabled the internal graphics in the Bios, and disabled the software in the start-up tab, the software was still trying to load causing a conflict. Once I forced Windows 8 into safe mode and uninstalled the driver using Revo Uninstaller I was able to install 8.1

Just to be clear I had Virtu MVP running under Windows 8 without any issues, but it is definitely not compatible with Windows 8.1 - trust me I speak from experience!!

I was in touch with Lucidlogix support. Here's their response:

"Thank you for contacting Lucid support and we apologize for the inconvenience.

The latest version of Virtu MVP 2.0 is currently not support 8.1. A new version which support 8.1 is expected to be released soon. Please check our website for updates."

How did you get Win 8 MVP to work?? I read that it is supposed to work on a discrete GPU but I just keep getting the setups for the integrated graphics...Did you get Lucid MVP to work on your dedicated GPU?

Didn't remember doing much to get it working
after clean install of Win8

I installed AMD CCC
enable the "initiate iGPU" in advance setting in bios
under graphics configurations
download and install Intel graphics drivers from Asus mother drivers page
also downloaded and installed the MVP Virtu from the same page

and it worked

actually worked better in Win8 then Win7
as i had problems alt+tab out of league of legends using it in Win7

There's now a Virtu MVP 2.0 driver for Windows 8.1 available in Lucidlogix website. I only need Virtu MVP to get 3 displays working, so I installed the trial software and then uninstalled it. The driver stayed and solved my problem. \o/

How did you uninstall Lucid MVP in safe mode? If you can mention the steps really appreciate.

I've a Radeon 7700 series card on a Z77 mobo and yea Virtu MVP was installed. I never was able to use it but apparently is was loading and with 8.1 causes a total blackout -- and not even safe mode worked with the Samsung LCD TV on the DVI port! However switching to an old 1024x768 LCD Sharp monitor did allow me to get into safe mode. If that had not have worked I would have pulled the Radeon out and tried to run off the i7's built in VGA... I uninstalled Virtu MVP and I'm back up. Microsoft SafeMode complete fail -- since even in SafeMode the screen went blank. Lucid however redeemed themselves as they sent an Activation Key when I registered for the 30 day 2.0 eval, reinstalled and all seems well - I even think its working! :0
